Yennora upgrade gets go ahead

A $40m redevelopment plan for the 68-hectare Yennora freight terminal in Western Sydney has been approved.

Planning minister Dr Andrew Refshauge said the approval is subject to stringent environmental and traffic management conditions.

Property developer Stockland Trust Group, which owns the Yennora terminal, put forward the proposal last year.

Yennora is mainly used as a rail hub to get freight to and from the port without sending trucks into Sydney’s congested metropolitan centre.

Rail operators using the facility include Patrick and FreightCorp (now Pacific National) and CRT Group.

Local community concerns were raised about the impact of trucks delivering and picking up freight from the terminal.

Restrictions on the development include designated heavy vehicle routes to and from the sites and regular monitoring of heavy vehicle movements.
