The dangerous and congested level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale are now gone for good and the new Parkdale Station is open to passengers.
Two lifts at the station opened for commuters last week, marking another important milestone in delivering an accessible station for everyone. With lifts open on both platforms, the accessible taxi service will no longer operate between Mentone and Mordialloc.
Crews are putting the finishing touches on the project, including completing the new station, constructing car parks, installing new walking and cycling paths as well as landscaping.
Last week, nine new car parking spaces opened in front of the shops for locals to use, two-way traffic has also returned to Como Parade West.
Works will continue over the coming months to get the new open space, community facilities and station parking ready for locals. Works to build the walking and cycling path are also underway. This will connect Parkdale to Cheltenham via Mentone.
Later this month, we’re returning Parkdale’s palm trees to Como Parade West. At project completion, more than 100,000 trees, shrubs and grasses will be planted in the station precinct and open space.
The project will be complete in 2025.
The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion, and allowing more trains to run more often.
