<p>Drilling tests have begun in the first stage of the Perth City Rail tunnel.</p> <p>Geotechnical and hydrogeological soil tests have started along the Perth foreshore for the 1.6-km tunnel to link Mandurah with the city’s northern suburbs route.</p> <p>Western Australia planning and infrastructure minister Alannah McTiernan said the drilling will determine the ground strength and soil conditions along the proposed route.</p> <p>Work on ground improvements is expected to begin in the middle of this year, depending on the test results.</p> <br />
