Bad weather overnight made rail travel to the CBD difficult for those living in parts of Melbourne’s north-east.

CBD GALES and heavy rain has impacted the Melbourne train network overnight, forcing some commuters to take the bus.

According to Metro Trains, buses replaced trains between Ringwood and Lilydale due to overhead wires being damaged by a fallen tree.

Buses were deployed to keep commuters moving, with trains continuing to operate between Flinders Street and Ringwood.

The number of people commuting was limited due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in the Victorian capital.

The ABC reported that more than 233,000 homes and businesses were without power as the tempest brought down trees and powerlines.

In metropolitan Melbourne, more than 30,000 people were reported to be without power.

The SES said it had received more than 3,600 calls for assistance overnight.
