<p>Westgate Ports has appointed former Toyota Australia manager Michael Haines as chief executive.</p> <p>The move comes as the stevedoring company gears up to launch its container logistics facility at Victoria Dock in Melbourne and to become the "principal stevedore for breakbulk cargo and container support services".</p> <p>"In the medium term, we are working to establish rail-based inland ports at both Altona and Lyndhurst," executive chairman Sam Terascio said.</p> <p>Earlier this year, Westgate Ports said it had recently employed four administration staff, five forklift operators and three truck drivers – it now had 19 subcontractor truck drivers permanently engaged with the operation, using super B-double port precinct vehicles.</p> <br />
