VLocity fleet numbers hit century mark

The 100th locally built high-speed VLocity train has been delivered in regional Victoria, hitting the tracks on the Waurn Ponds to Southern Cross line line.

The now 100-strong VLocity fleet has travelled millions of kilometres, made tens of thousands of trips and moved millions of passengers since the first service – supporting thousands of high skilled jobs.

The century train will be added to V/Line’s growing broad gauge VLocity fleet and provide fast and comfortable journeys across Victoria’s regional rail network.

The entire fleet has the capacity to move more than 21,000 passengers – the equivalent to moving the entire population of Wangaratta at once.

The State Government provided funding to build an additional 12 new VLocity trains in the 2022/2023 State Budget.

Since 2015, the government has delivered a 40 per cent increase in regional rail services, with V/Line now running more than 2200 services every week. It h as invested more than $8 billion in rolling stock and infrastructure – including more than $1.4 billion specifically for VLocity trains – supporting 10,000 local jobs.

Public Transport minister Ben Carroll said VLocity trains would continue to be a critical part of building a strong public transport network into the future.

“Each of our VLocity trains has been made in Victoria,” he said.
