VIDEO: TBM breaks through at Showground station

North West Rail Link has released footage of the tunnel boring machine, Elizabeth, breaking through at the ‘box’ of the future Showground station site.

After releasing photos earlier this week, the NWRL gave its Facebook fans more to look at, with footage of the moment Elizabeth broke through at the site.

“About 20m below the ground, here’s how Elizabeth made her grand break through into our Showground station construction site,” NWRL wrote.

“The first of our four tunnel boring machines, she is now halfway through her journey between Bella Vista and Cherrybrook.

“Over the next few weeks she’ll get a grease and oil (and cutter) change, before heading off again, this time for Castle Hill station. Time now, though, for a well-earned rest.”
