Victorian terminals will get open rail access: Little

Pacific National would provide open rail access to Victoria’s country terminals if it took over the state’s track lease, it was claimed.

Paul Little, managing director of Toll Holdings, one of Pacific National’s co-owners, told the Age that the owner of the track lease could not "unreasonably deny access" to terminals or infrastructure.

Mr Little’s comments follow fears of the Victorian Intermodal Freight Group about the level of competition and track access if Pacific National takes over the Victorian regional track lease as part of its purchase of Freight Australia.

The group is concerned that PN’s owners, Toll and Patrick, will be more interested in securing freight than providing access to parties which are competitors.

Although PN has said it will provide open access, the group hopes the State Government will not be fooled by the "sugar coated words of PN" when it makes a decision on the sale.
