Victorian scholarships for women in transport and logistics now open

Victorian women interested in developing a career in the transport sector can apply the annual Women in Freight, Logistics and Marine Management Scholarship.

The $10,000 scholarship was designed to encourage more women into management positions.

&#8220Although the freight, logistics and marine sector is changing, it is clear that there is still a need for initiatives to promote and support the recruitment and advancement of women within its ranks,&#8221 transport minister Peter Batchelor said.

&#8220Industry reports estimate that women currently represent only about 20 per cent of the workforce in these sectors, with the figure in management position significantly less still.&#8221

Last year’s scholarship was awarded to Shannon Gibson, a supply chain director at CSL Bioplasma.

&#8220I have used the award to assist me in completing my Masters degree and have also found it has presented me with a number of opportunities to further my career in the logistics and supply chain management field,&#8221 Ms Gibson said.

Applications close on November 24.
