Victoria looks to preserve rail heritage

The Victorian Government will spend $3.5m preserving the state’s rail history, it said last week.

The funding will be used to restore railway buildings throughout regional Victoria.

It will be administered through VicTrack with assistance from a Heritage Advisory Panel.

The program runs until 2006, but the government expects it to receive additional funding and be extended.

As an example of the government’s commitment, Creswick Railway Station is being given a $90,000 facelift, including repairs to the building, signal box, lamp room and van shed.

This funding is not part of the new heritage program.
