<p>The Victorian Government has withdrawn its application for declaration of the state’s rail network and vowed to work with Freight Australia to resolve the access issue.</p> <p>Freight Australia was opposed to the government’s proposed regime, particularly its pricing restrictions, which would prevent the operator from reimbursing its capital costs.</p> <p>The rail operator forwarded its own declaration request to the National Competition Council, which was rejected, and had gone to the Australian Competition Tribunal to have the decision overturned.</p> <p>However, Freight Australia has withdrawn its application from the competition tribunal.</p> <p>In response to this decision, the Victorian Government said it would review the regime and consider alternative arrangements that may better meet both parties’ objectives.</p> <p>The existing regime will remain in force until the issue is resolved.</p> <br />
