VFLC extends deadline for intermodal hub submissions

The Victorian Freight and Logistics Council has extended the deadline for submissions to its Intermodal Hubs Toolkit Consultation Paper from tomorrow (February 2) to February 19.

It says submissions have already been received from a range of peak bodies, local government and industry.

Bill Green, chairman of the council’s Freight Intermodal Efficiency Group, said the group wanted to get its advice to government right.

&#8220We are keen to accommodate those companies and associations that have contacted us and asked for an extension,&#8221 he said.

&#8220At this stage, the paper outlines options covering aspects of intermodal hub development, such as infrastructure supply, usage and regulation, land use and buffering, commercial support and strategic planning for hubs.

&#8220The next step is to refine this into a short, clear outline for government and industry on what the hubs need to be successful and the immediate priorities.&#8221

The paper gave business a basis to think about rail-road combinations and what the issues were for intermodal operations, Mr Green said.

&#8220We know that companies are voting with their feet to locate on or near hubs, so they can reserve the choice to use rail, particularly as fuel price increases effect their bottom line, he said&#8220

Copies of the paper can be downloaded from the VFLC website on www.vflc.com.au or obtained through contacting the secretariat on 03 9655 6457.
