<p>The troublesome rail bridge at Menangle is to be urgently rebuilt, New South Wales transport services minister Michael Costa said yesterday (Wednesday, April 30).</p> <p>The 140-year-old bridge will be replaced immediately and new bridges will also be built at Bathurst and Wagga.</p> <p>An Independent Commission Aganst Corruption inquiry will take place into the processes that led to the initial closure of the Menangle Bridge on March 27, which effectively shut direct rail traffic between Sydney and Melbourne.</p> <p>After extensive repairs, the bridge reopened last week with speed restrictions of 20 km/h.</p> <p>Mr Costa also announced a second stage of transport restructuring, including the integration of the metropolitan regional region functions of the Rail Infrastructure Corporation and the State Rail Authority.</p> <p>He also confirmed the appointments of Ross Bunyon and Rod Sims as chairmen of the Rail Infrastructure Corporation and State Rail Authority respectively. </p> <br />
