<p>United Goninan has won a $21.6m contract to supply 190 coal wagons to Queensland Rail.</p> <p>The wagons will be built at United Goninan’s Townsville plant and they will be used to cover increased haulage demands as additional mine capacity in Queensland comes on line over the next two years.</p> <p>The Queensland Government said it expected the state’s coal exports to increase between 54 and 62% within the next five years.</p> <p>QR chief executive Bob Scheuber said United Goninan has also been awarded a $22.4m contract to supply 920 coal wagon bogies to QR.</p> <p>"QR requires additional coal wagons and bogies to meet the increased coal haulage demands of our customers," Mr Scheuber said.</p> <p>"For example, once Rolleston mine opens in Central Queensland late next year, QR is expecting to haul 3.2m tonnes of coal in the first year."</p> <p>QR is also building 310 coal wagons at its Redbank workshops to accommodate the coal boom.</p> <p>In 2003በ, QR hauled 143.2m tonnes of coal.</p> <p>The two United Goninan contracts are due for completion at the end of 2005.</p> <br />
