Two bridge replacements for WA’s South West Mainline

West Australian network operator Arc Infrastructure will replace two rail bridges during a six-day shutdown of the South West Mainline beginning on Sunday.

The two bridges near Burekup, on the stretch of rail between Coalfields Highway and Russel Road, will be replaced to meet the expected increase in customer train loadings and to relieve temporary speed restrictions on the line, Arc Infrastructure said this week.

Other track maintenance and works on nearby level crossings will also take place over the shutdown, scheduled from February 24 to March 1.

“Pre-works have commenced on site however the main bridge works will be achieved during a mainline shutdown,” Arc project manager Nathan Byrne said.

“It is during this shutdown time that the bridges will be removed and replaced. To reduce the impact and disruptions on residents, the state’s freight network and on our customers’ ability to meet shipping schedules, we will work 24 hours a day during those days to get the works done as quickly as possible.”
