<p>Tranz Rail has brought forward a $4m capital works program to upgrade several sections of its network over the next six months.</p> <p>The work will be carried out by Tranz Rail’s new infrastructure maintenance partner Transfield.</p> <p>The operator has also allocated $4m for a separate track improvement program aimed at removing temporary speed restrictions and reducing the incidence of heat buckling of the track.</p> <p>Works include extra rail de-stressing nationwide, rail stress measurement to determine rail neutral temperatures, track work on the South Island coal route and crossing loop extensions on the South Island coal route.</p> <br />
