<p>Tranz Rail notched up a record tonnage of 14.8m tonnes carried during the 2003 financial year, the New Zealand operator said.</p> <p>The record beat the 2000 record of 14.7m tonnes and was a 3.3% increase on the previous financial year,</p> <p>The company said it has also started to release monthly volume data of traffic moved on the network, in keeping with other international rail companies.</p> <p>For July 2003, Tranz Rail’s intermodal traffic on rail came in at 135,463,528 revenue tonnes kilometres (RTK), an increase of 9.19% on July last year.</p> <p>Bulk traffic on rail fell 1.41% to 153,884,926 RTK over the same period. </p> <br />
