Trains will return to Melbourne’s Boronia Station next month, as work continues to transform the precinct into a more modern and accessible transport hub.
From Tuesday August 4, passengers will once again be able to catch trains from the station, with access to the platforms via lifts or stairs at the western entrance on Erica Avenue.
Buses will replace trains between Bayswater and Belgrave from 8.30pm on Monday July 27 until the last service on Monday August 3.
During the closure, crews will work around the clock to clean and paint the trench walls, install roofs on the new platform canopies, complete paving and tactile signage, and install screen fencing.
After trains resume, work will continue across the station precinct, including the completion of new ticket offices, protective services offices, a community plaza and a pocket park.
The western station entrance on Erica Avenue will close for final works from late August until late September. During this time, passengers can access the station via the new Lupton Way entrance, connected by a footpath from Dorset Road.
Lupton Way will reopen to traffic in late September.
When the Boronia Station Upgrade is completed in spring, both station entrances will be open.
The new station forecourt will feature a canopy inspired by the flora of the nearby Dandenong Ranges, along with a larger concourse to improve connections across the rail line.
Accessibility will also be enhanced with a new pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way, upgraded footpaths to both station entrances, additional bike hoops and improved cycling connections.
The project will also deliver more than 50 new trees and around 3000 plants and shrubs across the station precinct, including the new pocket park and landscaped plaza linking Dorset Road to the station.
