The Tocumwal freight line is currently undergoing upgrade works near Numurkah, north of Shepparton, including maintenance on five level crossings and mud hole removal along several sections of the track.
The new works come after 46 level crossings on the line were upgraded for safety reasons last year.
The $9 million improvements, carried out by Victoria’s regional rail operator V/Line, also include the replacement of 30,000 timber sleepers on the critical broad-gauge freight link.
“We’re investing in the future of Victoria’s rail freight network, with these critical upgrades ensuring local farmers can continue to get their produce from paddock to port safely and efficiently,” state transport minister Jacinta Allan said.
“Crews will replace around 900 sleepers a day over the next month. While this program is underway, V/Line is taking the opportunity to complete other improvements to the track and crossings along the line.”
The sleeper replacement works will be completed by the middle of April, while other works are to continue until the middle of May.
Hi All,
This might sound like Good News as Such. The Fact is, ITS NOT. If Victoria had the Smarts – Provided they have It, the State would Standardize the Branch Line and integrate the line into the Ntl Standard Gauge
Network. Also by Extending the line into the Rich Food Bow Region of N S W, allows the line to B a Paying
Proposition. Dirty Word Maybe, By doing so Companies like Qube, S C T, or S S R, can expand their Operations in Both States and also benefit Ports like Melbourne or others as well. Surprising how a little bit
of Co – operation on the State or Federal Level can go.
