<p>The Federal Government will invest $78m AusLink dollars into revitalising the Tasmanian rail network.</p> <p>In December 2006, Pacific National and the State Government reached an in-principle agreement on contractual arrangements for the network.</p> <p>Under the arrangement, state and federal governments agreed to contribute to the $118m rescue package.</p> <p>Federal transport minister Mark Vaile said the purpose of the rail rescue package was to undertake a program of remedial works on the AusLink elements of the Tasmanian rail system, between Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.</p> <p>“These works are necessary to ensure speed restrictions and other track infrastructure impediments to reliable performance are addressed over the 10year period of the works program,” he said.</p> <br />
