Sydney’s train driver shortage crisis will get worse before it gets better, according to one media report.

Although the driver shortage dropped to 127 drivers in February, it rose to 129 in March and is expected to peak at 137 drivers in June, today’s (Friday, April 30) Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Changes to the CityRail timetable will then reduce that shortage by 45, the Herald said.

But a new timetable due in September next year will exacerbate the shortage, as it will require an additional 85 drivers, the paper stated.
