Passenger services on the Sydney’s Inner West Light Rail resumed on Saturday 12 February, with testing of borrowed trams from the CBD and South East line now complete.
Minister for Transport and Veterans David Elliott and Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins were onboard for a final test run before opening to customers.
“I’m thrilled our staff, as well as staff from Altrac, Transdev, and Alstom, have been able to get light rail services back up and running between Dulwich Hill and Central,” Collins said.
“The L1 Dulwich Hill line will operate every 15 minutes and we’ll supplement the trams with the popular 2L1 bus service between Central and The Star, and the F10 ferry service between Blackwattle Bay and Barangaroo.
“Customers travelling on the Inner West Light Rail and 2L1 bus route will receive a 30 percent discount on their fares.”
Collins said light rail customers and the community should be aware of some changes to the returning services.
“Mind the gap when boarding and alighting, hold on at all times, and if you’re onboard and require driver assistance press the blue button with an accessible symbol,” he said.
“For anyone moving around the tracks remember to look and listen out for the trams, only cross tracks at designated crossings when safe to do so and observe all signage and traffic signals.”
Transdev Sydney managing director Arsene Durand-Raucher said the Citadis trams are newer and have different characteristics but passengers can look forward to the comfort and convenience they are familiar with on light rail.
