Ethelton Station will be reopening on Sunday 3 November, and the Outer Harbor line will be stopping at the station as usual.

Ethelton Station will be open with new platforms, improving passenger safety and experience. The $9.9 million upgrade will be completed ahead of schedule.

The upgrade began in late June with the replacement platforms constructed of steel frames and concrete decks.

Station improvements include:

  • New platforms with accessible ramps and wider platforms.
  • Updated railway tracks to match the higher platforms.
  • An upgrade of the north and south pedestrian crossings.

The station was first opened in 1916, with the old platforms built in 1960. The existing station shelters are relatively new and were retained.

The former platforms were made of recycled iron railway tracks and concrete slabs, and have reached the end of their lifespan.

The Ethelton Station carpark and surrounding footpaths are also open.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Tom Koutsantonis spoke about the importance of this project.

“Some 60,000 passengers use this station every year and will benefit from this upgrade,” he said.

“This project will improve safety and accessibility, which is very important in encouraging public transport usage.”
