Siemens Mobility has unveiled a new range of digitalised locomotives for freight and passenger transport, while also opening a brand-new rail service centre.
The company’s new Vectron X innovation combines proven locomotive technology with digital functionalities and interfaces for third-party solutions. This platform aims to enhance data-driven applications, deliver targeted maintenance, and provide app-based features that can help optimise operating costs and improve how efficiently each vehicle is deployed.
Vectron X forms part of Siemens’ Xcelerator, an open digital business platform, which enables users to seamlessly connect rolling stock, operations, services, and infrastructure together via a central 11.6-inch Smart Screen that consolidates key applications and information directly in the cockpit.
With this approach, Siemens Mobility is bringing a ‘CarPlay-like’ solution to rail for the first time, transforming the driver’s cab into a digital workspace.
Alongside the Vectron X launch, Siemens Mobility has opened a newly modernised Rail Service Centre in Munich-Allach. With the new facility, the company triples the capacity at the site from about 25 to up to 80 overhauls and accident repairs per year.
Michael Peter, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Mobility, said both developments would help the company to scale solutions for customers.
“Together with our expanding service offering and the new Rail Service Centre in Munich-Allach, we are creating a fully digitalised, end-to-end portfolio that seamlessly connects operations and maintenance and enables highly efficient deployment of our locomotives in both freight and passenger transport,” he said.
“With significantly increased capacity and fully digitalised workshop processes, we are creating the basis for faster and more predictable workshop visits.”
