SCT Logistics has been awarded an eight-year contract with Consolidated Rutile for the loading and transportation of mineral sands at its Queensland mining operations at Pinkenba and Stradbroke Island.

The contract involves the cartage of bulk sands from two of the CRL mining sites to the port of Brisbane, as well as transportation of finished product from the Pinkenba plant to Hamilton for export.

SCT’s Queensland state manager, Kevin Turnbull, said the introduction of new technology through the use of quad-axle trailers for the transport application would see a reduction of trucks on the road, which was both a positive for the local environment, as well as providing commercial benefits to Consolidated Rutile.

SCT will operate a fleet of 10 prime movers and purpose-built tippers, as well as several front-end loaders at a number of locations to fulfil its loading and unloading obligations.

SCT chief executive Geoff Smith said the new business provided further expansion to the company’s national bulk operations, with major logistical agreements in place associated with bulk sugar, waste and mineral sands and over 60 prime movers and purpose-built trailing equipment dedicated to the division.

It also contributed to SCT ‘s diversification strategy of expanding its bulk business to complement its existing rail operations, interstate road linehaul, refrigerated transport, warehousing operations and local distribution, he said.
