<p>SCT Logistics has secured a three-year contract with IKEA Distribution Services Australia for the provision of transport services in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.</p> <p>IKEA is one of the world’s largest retailers and on the east coast, has two stores in Sydney, two in Melbourne and one in Brisbane. There are external supporting warehouses for the Moore Park store in Sydney and the Springwood store in Brisbane.</p> <p>SCT Logistics said it was one of the largest privately owned rail operators in Australia, with terminals and warehousing in all states. </p> <p>In recent years the company has diversified and expanded operations, becoming a major operator in road linehaul, warehousing and contract logistics.</p> <p>SCT Logistics’ task will be to transport import stock once unpacked to the IKEA stores and external warehouses, which receive freight both during the day and night, seven days a week.</p> <p>To handle this volume of freight, SCT Logistics has committed investment in a new dedicated fleet to IKEA. </p> <p>This consists of seven Volvo FM12 prime movers, two Mercedes Benz Atego 14 pallet rigids, and 33 Vawdrey 45′ Tautliner trailers.</p> <p>SCT Logistics chief executive Geoff Smith said the IKEA contract further expanded its long term plans for diversification into other areas of logistics.</p> <br />
