V/Line staff and coach drivers operating V/Line branded services except for the myki bus network will start accepting cash as payment from Monday, 18 October.
V/Line will also resume on-board catering on most services from that date.
Passengers will be able to use cash again to top up their myki at public transport offices or to buy a ticket on buses that don’t use myki.
For ease and convenience, payment with debit or credit is still preferred.
Customers can also use various other options to purchase a ticket.
- Mobile myki: Users who have an android phone may be able to download the mobile myki app. When they top up with mobile myki using a credit or debit card, the balance is available instantly.
- Online: Commuters don’t need to register in order to top up a myki online at ptv.vic.gov.au/myki, but should top up 90 minutes prior to travel.
- Auto top up: The myki can be linked to credit or debit cards so that the myki can be automatically topped up when the balance reaches a nominated amount.
- Retail Agent: Top-ups can be done at a range of retail agents across Melbourne, including 7-Eleven stores.
- Railway Stations: myki machines are available at railway stations.
- Major Interchanges: Many major bus interchanges have myki machines.
- By Telephone: Call 1800 800 007 to top up by telephone
- For frequent travellers, a myki Pass may be the best option.
