From the March 17 to 21 2025, RATP Dev, in partnership with Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand (PTAANZ), hosted events in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to showcase how RATP Group managed the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Experts from RATP Group, who significantly contributed to the organisation of the event, shared insights and the Group’s expertise in managing major events with Australian stakeholders, as Brisbane prepares to welcome the event in 2032.
During the Paris Games (the most successful Australian Olympic campaign ever with 18 gold medals won!), over 100 dedicated transport services and 130+ bus routes were adjusted to ensure up to 1.5 million additional daily trips.
This effort was supported by the daily mobilisation of 35,000 staff members, including 5,000 field agents and 2,700 volunteers, who received specialised staff engagement training to assist passengers and foster a festive, welcoming atmosphere throughout their journey.
This successful organisation was possible thanks to RATP Group’s approach: anticipation through long-term planning, close collaboration with local authorities and all stakeholders, mobilisation of personnel and, last but not least, lessons learnt from recent major events in different locations worldwide.
Combined with RATP Group’s day-to-day operational excellence, including real-time multimodal network management, continuous monitoring and adaptive strategies supported by a robust incident response system, this methodology ensured smooth journeys for passengers, including unexpected surges in traffic especially late at night.
The Group’s operational excellence was also demonstrated with the extension of Metro Line 14 – linking Saint-Denis Pleyel (serving the Stade de France) to Paris Orly International Airport – delivered on time and within budget in June, one month before the start of the Games, and now transporting 800,000 passengers daily with performance levels exceeding those pre-extension despite the line length being doubled.
The success of the Paris 2024 Games illustrates RATP Group’s expertise in major event mobility, leaning on decades of experience from contributing to the world’s largest events, providing reliable and scalable transport solutions for millions of passengers.
From the Tour de France (cycling) to the 2023 Rugby World Cup and EURO 2016, supported by RATP, as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, each event has been an opportunity to assist clients and passengers travel smoothly from and to venues and enjoy a seamless journey.
RATP Group was instrumental in supporting the ambitious goal of making 100 per cent of journeys in Paris accessible by public transport during the Games. By putting mobility at the heart of the Games, the Group proved its ability to deliver tailor-made, agile and scalable solutions, ensuring that every movement, every connection, and every journey reflected the excellence of its network.
As Brisbane gears up for 2032, RATP Dev is committed to sharing this expertise to help design and deliver a successful and sustainable transport experience for the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes and fans.
