<p>A 1.65-km tunnel under Perth will link Western Australia’s new Mandurah rail line and the extended northern suburbs line.</p> <p>The tunnel plan is designed to revitalise the Swan River foreshore and Northbridge areas.</p> <p>It includes a new Esplanade train station providing greater access to the river, the busport and Convention Centre and an underground extension to the existing Perth Central Station.</p> <p>The Mandurah-Clarkson railway will now enter a tunnel along the foreshore, to a station on the Esplanade, then continue under William Street to an deep extension of Perth Central station, where it will link with the Northern Suburbs line, re-emerging west of Lake Street.</p> <p>Costings suggest the tunnel will add $15.5m to the project’s $1.4bn budget.</p> <br />
