<p>The rail line between Sydney and Melbourne was reopened at 9.50 pm yesterday after a freight train derailment 8 km north of Benalla Victoria last week closed the line for three days.</p> <p>Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) spokesman Brad Emery said repair crews worked non-stop around the clock on the weekend to repair the damage.</p> <p>A temporary speed restriction of 30 km/hr has been placed on the repaired section of track, between Benalla and Glenrowan, and would remain in place until the ARTC deemed it safe for normal speed.</p> <p>Mr Emery said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.</p> <p>At 8:50 pm last Thursday, 12 rear wagons of an 800-metre freight train, carrying steel to Melbourne, derailed and damaged 1,000 metres of track with rail and sleepers affected.</p> <p>The standard gauge rail was twisted and was fouling the broad gauge track along with some of the derailed wagons, the ARTC said.</p> <br />
