The Permanent Way Institution of NSW (PWI NSW) celebrated some of the best projects, innovations, individuals and teams in the rail industry at its 2022 Awards Night, held last week at the IVY Ballroom in Sydney.
The awards comprise seven categories, including welding, maintenance, innovation and platelaying. The calibre of the entries impressed the judging panels, highlighting the outstanding work carried out by the rail industry.
The winners included:
- Welders Award: Guy Rowles Johnson, Quickway
- Ken Erickson Innovation Award: Measurement and Inspection Digital Twin, Sydney Trains
- Steve Maxwell Award (Minor): Installation of 805/806/807/808 Scissor Crossover – Sydenham Station Junction Works, Laing O’Rourke/John Holland (JHLOR Joint Venture)
- Steve Maxwell Award (Platelaying): Gunning Derailment Emergency Repair Works, John Holland
- Design Award (Design Fees < $1m): 25 TAL Upgrade: Scoping, Planning, and Designing for Narrabri to Walgett and Stockinbingal to Griffith, Lycopodium
- Design Award (Design Fees > $1m): Sydney Metro Central Station, GHD & Aurecon Design Joint Venture
- Alan Barham Maintenance Award: City West Track Maintenance Team, Sydney Trains
- Steve Maxwell Award (Major): Construction of the Pacific National Intermodal Rail Facility at St Marys, Rhomberg Rail Australia
- Young Achiever Award: Chris Wills, John Holland Group
The PWI NSW is believed to be one of the largest and most active sections of the Permanent Way Institution worldwide.
It holds an annual convention every year during October, enabling delegates to share knowledge of the railway industry with more than 500 individual members, life members, and over 80 active corporate members.
