Rail division drives United profits

<p>United Group has reported a 33% increase in full year profit, driven by a strong performance by the company’s rail division United Goninan.</p> <p>United Goninan lifted its gross profit by 34% to 26.2m due to a strong resource sector.</p> <p>Strong demand for iron ore wagons in Western Australia and an increase in activity in Queensland were the major reasons for the strong result.</p> <p>The strong performance is forecast to continue with several new rail contracts signed off on.</p> <p>Agreements include a $47m locomotive refurbishment deal with Queensland Rail, the supply of 700 iron ore wagons to BHP Billiton, a $37m deal to manufacture coal wagons for Queensland Rail, and to supply another four Dash 9 locomotives to Pilbara Rail Company. </p> <br />
