Quieter tracks planned for Epping-Chatswood tunnels

<p>The contractors constructing Sydney’s Epping-Chatswood underground rail link will lay tracks on concrete slabs with a rubber base to minimise train noise and vibration.</p> <p>The 12-km rail line will comprise two seven-metre diameter parallel tunnels, with walkways, cross-passage links, flexible ventilation and emergency systems.</p> <p>Two tunnel-boring machines will carve through sandstone up to 70 metres below ground. </p> <p>New stations at Dehli Road, Macquarie Park and Macquarie University will be around 20 metres underground.</p> <p>The Thiess-Hochtief joint venture will build the rail link, under New South Wales’s biggest-ever design and construct contract.</p> <br />
