Queensland Rail vaccination update

Queensland Rail has been working closely with Queensland Health in response to updated requirements from the Queensland Government for hospitality workers and venues to be fully vaccinated from 17 December.

Queensland Rail’s Head of Regional Jim Benstead said the company was excited to welcome back interstate tourists as well as local customers onboard its services over the holiday season.

“In consultation with Queensland Health, it has been determined that the new vaccination requirements will apply to a number of Queensland Rail’s Travel and Tourism Services,” he said.

“From 17 December 2021, all customers and staff who travel on the Kuranda Scenic Rail and Gulflander tourism services will need to be fully vaccinated.

“In addition, all on board staff of Queensland Rail’s Travel services – the Westlander, Inlander, Spirit of Queensland, Spirit of the Outback and Rockhampton and Bundaberg Tilt Trains – will need to be fully vaccinated.

“Customers on these services are also required to be fully vaccinated, if they wish to use the on-board dining rooms.

“We are gradually making contact with customers already booked on to these services from 17 December, and thank them for their cooperation and understanding as we work with Queensland Health to implement these mandatory changes.

‘Fully vaccinated’ is defined as a person who is 16 years of age or over who has received the prescribed number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. A person who has evidence of a medical contraindication is treated as being fully vaccinated.
