Queensland Rail is offering passengers half-price tickets for the Bundaberg Tilt Train to get Wide Bay residents to and from this year’s Royal Queensland Show – otherwise known as the Ekka.

The Ekka will take place from August 9 to 17 at the Brisbane Showgrounds, and discounted fares are available on selected services on those dates.

From Bundaberg to Brisbane, reduced fare return adult tickets will be $89 and children’s return tickets will be $44.50.

Discounts are also available on one-way tickets and on services from Howard, Maryborough West and Hervey Bay, including the Railbus connection from Hervey Bay to Maryborough West station where customers board the train.

The Tilt Train will stop at the newly upgraded Exhibition Station, providing passengers with direct access to the event.

The revamped station features improved access with new lifts, a new entry plaza, upgraded wayfinding signage and new hearing aid loops.

Queensland Rail Head of Regional Scott Cornish said that for 160 years, Queensland Rail has proudly connected regional communities by rail and this was the perfect opportunity to create new memories and connections while celebrating all things Queensland.

“The Ekka is a much-loved Queensland tradition, and we want to make sure our Wide Bay communities have the opportunity to experience everything it has to offer — from the animals and exhibitions to the rides, strawberry sundaes, showbags, and fireworks,” he said.

“With half-price rail fares, comfortable seating, air-conditioning, onboard catering and free Wi-Fi, the Tilt Train is one of the best ways to travel to Brisbane without the hassle of traffic or parking.

“Seats on our Tilt Train are limited — don’t miss this chance to experience the Ekka for half the fare and double the fun.”
