<p>QR is expected to unveil its new partnership with infrastructure specialists Leighton Contractors, GHD and KBR, today (Tuesday, March 11) in support of the $1bn Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project. </p> <p>This project includes the construction of the 69-km Northern Missing Link railway and the Buckley to Newlands upgrade. </p> <p>It is being delivered under QR’s CoalRail Infrastructure Program, which provides for future rail capacity to meet the growing coal export market.</p> <p>"The project will relieve pressure on the Goonyella coal system by increasing capacity to the Abbot Point Coal Terminal through connecting the Goonyella and Newlands systems," QR said. </p> <p>"This will allow mining companies to transport coal for the Goonyella system to Abbot Point."</p> <p>The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2010 to align with the ports corporation of Queensland’s expansion plans for the Abbot Point Coal Terminal.</p> <br />
