Queensland’s acting transport minister says the continued growth of public transport usage in the state is clear after journeys in South East Queensland rose 5.6 per cent in November 2018.

After recording a record 182 million passenger trips in FY18, public transport has continued its upward trajectory in South East Queensland, with the most recent figures indicating 15.31 million trips were taken in November 2018, up from 14.49 million trips taken in the same month a year prior.

“It’s pleasing to see that positive trend continue into the current financial year,” acting transport and main roads minister Mark Ryan said on January 10.

Ryan also noted the state’s New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) trains were being included in on-time running performance figures from the start of January, as more of the trains enter service.

“NGR faults, and other force majeure incidents such as storms and bushfires, have always been captured in QR’s customer impact data published online,” Ryan said.

“However, the Palaszczuk Government made a commitment in late 2018 to improve reporting as the NGR fleet comes to represent for a higher proportion of south-east Queensland’s rollingstock.”
