Public Transport Victoria has launched a new campaign attempting to raise awareness about commuter safety and security on the public transport network.
Supported by the Victoria Police, the “Safety You Can See” campaign uses print and social media channels to highlight the security measures in place to keep commuters safe while travelling on the train, tram and bus networks.
“I encourage all Victorians to use the interactive elements of this campaign to understand the safety features in place on our public transport network,” said PTV CEO Jeroen Weimar.
“This includes more than 1200 Protective Service Officers and CCTV monitoring – literally safety you can see.”
Weimar said the campaign reminds people that robust and effective measures are in place to keep passengers safe on a daily basis.
“The overwhelming majority of the 590 million journeys a year on Victoria’s public transport network happen without incident,” he said.
“We want people to feel safe and confident using public transport no matter what the time of the day.”
Highlighted security features include real time monitoring of the network through CCTV, safety buttons and safety-zones on and around platforms, as well as the Protective Services Officers (PSOs) and Customer Service staff.
