Jeroen Weimar, Public Transport Victoria’s current CEO, has been appointed as the new chairman of the board for the state’s regional public train operator V/Line, taking on the role from the beginning of next month.

From 1 July Weimar – who will also remain as PTV CEO – will replace Jenny Dawson, whose term as is concluding after 3 years in the position. State transport minister Jacinta Allen praised the work of the outgoing chair.

“I’d like to thank Jenny Dawson for her commitment and dedication in guiding V/Line through a period of significant change and expansion of the rail network, and enormous patronage growth,” Allan said.

Weimar will be expected to V/Line to manage its interface with Metro Trains at the metropolitan network boundary and improve the operator’s performance as it confronts rising levels of patronage growth on its regional services.

The Victorian government has said that Weimar’s appointment will improve V/Line’s governance arrangements and better integrate it with the Melbourne metropolitan network, issues recently raised by the state’s Auditor General.

The transport minister said that Weimar would be perfectly placed to help V/Line improve its performance during a period of significant rail infrastructure projects on both the regional and metropolitan networks, including the Regional Rail Revival programme and the construction on the Metro Tunnel.

“Jeroen Weimar’s record at PTV is clear,” Allan said. “He has the experience and skills to drive better performance outcomes on our booming regional network and deliver the billions of dollars of upgrades currently underway.”

Weimar will remain in the role of V/Line board chairman for three years.
