A preferred bidder has been chosen to build the new underground stations at Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill in Melbourne as part of the Suburban Rail Loop Project.
Detailed negotiations with Place Alliance are now underway, with the Stations Alliance North contract expected to be awarded in 2026.
Place Alliance is a consortium of John Holland, Kellogg Brown and Root, and Arup and has experience delivering major infrastructure projects, having previously worked on Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel, Sydney Metro, WestConnex and Inland Rail.
The two other shortlisted bidders – ESPA and Connexus – will now compete for the second stations contract – to build the future Suburban Rail Loop stations at Clayton and Monash.
The Victorian Government said the new SRL East stations will be “fully accessible, light-filled spaces” with plazas, retail and dining.
They will feature elements inspired by the history of the local community and First Nations peoples.
Sustainability is to be central to the designs, with each station to have a Green Star rating of at least 5 stars.
The Suburban Rail Loop project is intended to slash travel times and reduce congestion in Melbourne.
The 90-kilometre SRL will link every major rail line from the Frankston line to the Werribee line, via the airport.
It will be delivered over several decades and is divided into four sections: SRL East, SRL North, SRL Airport and SRL West.
Final preparations are now underway for the start of tunneling on SRL East next year.
The 26-kilometre SRL East corridor will be built as a twin-tunnel, standalone line to fully integrate into the existing public transport network.
