Plans of Mobil, AWB Ltd and South Australian grains marketer ABB Grain to build a $100m deep-sea port at Port Stanvac will include a new railway linking the southern suburbs to the Adelaide-Darwin line.

The project, revealed in the Adelaide Advertiser last week (August 29), includes extending the Port Stanvac jetty by 650 metres and building a terminal capable of storing 100,000 tonnes of grain.

Known as Project Southern Growth, the plan is designed to boost oil refinery operations, protect grain exports and give Southern Vales wine producers greater access to overseas markets.

There are concerns the project could face problems accessing passenger rail lines, which would need to be converted from broad to standard gauge.

Any chance to have this inland rail electrified for Electric locomotives ?
