Police respond to level crossing collision in NSW Central West

NSW Police says the driver of a Subaru station wagon received lacerations to his legs and chest pains after a collision with an XPT passenger train at a level crossing near Blayney, in the state’s Central West.

An XPT passenger train travelling towards Orange struck the front of the station wagon at the Greghamstown Road level crossing in Blayney just before noon on Sunday, December 9, the Police said.

None of the 122 passengers on the train were injured, according to the report.

The 69-year-old male driver of the station wagon was taken to Orange Base Hospital for treatment.

Given the location and time of the incident, the XPT was most likely NSW TrainLink’s daily 427 service from Sydney Central to Dubbo. The service is timetabled to have left Blayney at 11:38am and due to arrive in Orange at 12:02pm.

As of Monday the Australian Transport Safety Bureau was yet to announce an investigation into the collision.
