<p>A section of the east-west interstate Broken Hill mainline will be closed for repair until Friday morning (October 21) after a Pacific National freight train caused severe damage to 35 km of track.</p> <p>A wagon in the Pacific National train consist derailed and rerailed itself over the journey along the Trida-Ivanhoe section of the track on Sunday, October 15, the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) said.</p> <p>"Severe damage to the rail was found by ARTC over a distance of 35km involving 85 rail breaks over the 35km section," an ARTC spokeswoman told <em>Lloyd’s List DCN</em> .</p> <p>The line was closed and it was hoped it would reopen to traffic by 7 am on Friday, she said.</p> <p>Sydney-Perth services are being diverted via Melbourne.</p> <p>ARTC is continuing to investigate the incident.</p> <br />
