PN relaunches rebuilt X Class locos

Pacific National has this morning (Friday, December 17) relaunched the first of its rebuilt X class locomotives in Melbourne.

The locomotive has been rebuilt from scratch and branded in Pacific National livery.

A company spokesman said the launch recognised three months of hard work to integrate the former Freight Australia business that Pacific National acquired on September 1.

Pacific National also launched a rebuilt heritage locomotive C501 to be named George Brown &#8211 after the former Victorian Railways chairman of commissioners from 1967 to 1973.

Mr Brown played a part in the development and introduction of diesel-electric locomotives in the state.

C501 was the first of its class and introduced in 1977. V-Line used the heavy locos mostly on intercapital freight services, often back to back, until selling them to National Rail.
