<p>Pacific National has this morning (Friday, December 17) relaunched the first of its rebuilt X class locomotives in Melbourne.</p> <p>The locomotive has been rebuilt from scratch and branded in Pacific National livery.</p> <p>A company spokesman said the launch recognised three months of hard work to integrate the former Freight Australia business that Pacific National acquired on September 1.</p> <p>Pacific National also launched a rebuilt heritage locomotive C501 to be named <em>George Brown</em> – after the former Victorian Railways chairman of commissioners from 1967 to 1973.</p> <p>Mr Brown played a part in the development and introduction of diesel-electric locomotives in the state.</p> <p>C501 was the first of its class and introduced in 1977. V-Line used the heavy locos mostly on intercapital freight services, often back to back, until selling them to National Rail. </p> <br />
