Pitt Street station deal awarded

The NSW government has awarded a $463 million contract to build the new Pitt Street station as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project.

CPB Contractors will deliver the new Pitt Street station contract, which includes a 250-metre-long underground station and connections to station entries with retail and other commercial facilities.

In addition, CPB Contractors will work with Oxford Properties Group to design and built two 39-storey buildings above the new station. The state government will receive $369 million from that partnership to the air rights to develop the two buildings.

“A 39-storey commercial office building will be built above the northern entry to Pitt Street Station, on Park Street between Pitt and Castlereagh streets. The office building will accommodate upwards of 3,000 daily occupiers and will boast leading smart building and sustainability features,” the Sydney Metro authority said.

“A 39-storey rental residential building will be built above the southern entry to Pitt Street station, near the corner of Bathurst and Pitt streets.  The building will offer approximately 230 premium apartments and high-quality facilities for the use of residents.”

Work on Pitt Street station is expected to take place from 2020 to 2023, in time for the planned opening of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest line by 2024.

Once open, the line will combine with the recently-opened Sydney Metro Northwest to create more than 66 kilometres of new metro railway.

The combined line will include 31 metro stations.
