Perth inner city rail project open to bidders

<p>The Western Australian Government has called for expressions of interest in the $200m project to design and construct its inner city rail.</p> <p>The project covers the section of the Perth-Mandurah railway between Narrows Bridge and Perth Central station, and connections to the northern suburbs railway.</p> <p>It will include 1.6 km of tunnels and new underground station platforms.</p> <p>The State Government said it wants a single contractor responsible for design and construction of all project elements and long-term maintenance on key items.</p> <p>Three government rail project managers have recently visited southeast Asia and Europe to examine tunnel boring and contracting methods.</p> <p>The expression of interest period closes on April 16, with two proponents then selected to prepare detailed bids.</p> <p>Project completion is scheduled for 2006. </p> <br />
