Penrith station upgrade part of $150m plan

A major upgrade of Penrith railway station is part of $150 million in government spending to improve access to six key Western Sydney stations.

State member for Penrith, Stuart Ayres, on Friday announced planning approval had been received for the major upgrade at Penrith, which includes a range of accessibility and aesthetic upgrades.

“The improvements include new lifts and stairs to the platforms, an upgraded station concourse, improved bus, taxi, and kiss and ride areas, and upgrades to lighting and CCTV,” Ayres explained.

“The upgrade is designed to provide a better customer experience and increase capacity for future growth in the region.

“This upgrade at Penrith Station will make catching public transport a much more attractive option.

“We already have a contractor on board to deliver this project, with construction planned to commence mid this year.”

The upgrade is part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, which includes $150 million in investment to upgrade six key Western Sydney stations, including Pendle Hill, Blacktown, Wentworth Falls and Flemington.

Since the Transport Access Program began in April 2012, more than 450 projects are underway or have been completed, Transport for NSW says.
