Patrick Portlink’s Bathurst Rail Intermodal Terminal (Brit) opened officially today (Thursday, March 8) with a promise of lifting the burden on roads and luring businesses to the area.

"More freight on rail will mean less trucks on the roads that link Sydney and central western New South Wales, including traffic currently passing through the Blue Mountains,” general manager Geoff Sundstrom said.

“The opening of Brit will also encourage businesses to relocate to Bathurst and the surrounding towns as importers and exporters take advantage of the direct rail access to Sydney.”

Patrick parent Toll Holdings said Brit, which will also be a distribution point for goods coming into the area, was the first stage of a larger transport precinct in the town.
