Parkdale Station in Melbourne has opened its new green open spaces and play areas to the public.
The station’s nature-based playground is the latest community space to open, completed in time for the Easter school holidays.
Locals can also keep active on the precinct’s basketball half-court, open-air gym and pedestrian and cycling paths.
Landscaping works have also now been completed, with more than 100,000 trees, shrubs and grasses planted throughout the station precinct and open spaces.
As part of the project’s commitment to sustainability, the landscaping designs include re-used logs, repurposed to form seats, habitat logs for local fauna, and stepping stones for children to play on.
The new Parkdale Station and elevated rail bridge opened last August, as part of the project to remove the dangerous and congested level crossings on Parkers and Warrigal roads.
In total, 27 level crossings will go from the Frankston Line, which will be boom gate free in 2029.
