<p>Pacific National has started its coal haulage contract for BHP Billiton’s Dendrobium and Elouera mines in the Illawarra, New South Wales.</p> <p>The first service for the 6m tonnes a year, five-year contract leaves today (Monday, March 8) from the mines to the Dendrobium Washery at Port Kembla.</p> <p>Pacific National said the coal is part of a 30-year contract between BHP Billiton and Bluescope Steel for use in its steelworks.</p> <p>The operator will run up to nine services a day, each carrying about 1200 tonnes of coal.</p> <p>Pacific National will also manage 88 former BHP Billiton wagons, the 20 km of BHP Billiton track and will also manage the train scheduling.</p> <p>The company estimates the new contract will create 24 new jobs for the region. </p> <br />
